Nails, Skin, and Prep: What Actually Matters Before Your Session

Let’s get into the details—without turning it into a whole thing.
Because I know how quickly this can spiral into:
“I need to fix everything before I go in.”.
You don’t.
Let’s simplify it.
Nails—
Clean and intentional goes a long way.
Neutral, bold, simple—it all works.
The only thing that doesn’t? Chipped, forgotten, or distracting.
Skin—
Hydrated is always better than overworked.
Do not try a brand new skincare routine the week of your session.
Your skin already knows what it’s doing—trust it.
Hair removal, grooming—
Do what makes you feel comfortable.
There is no expectation here.
Spray tans—
If you love them, great. Just time them correctly.
If you don’t, skip it.
Your natural skin tone photographs beautifully.
And here’s the part that matters most—
None of these things make or break your session.
They support it. They enhance it.
But they are not the reason your photos will feel powerful.
That comes from you.
I’ve photographed people who showed up “perfectly prepped” and people who kept it simple.
The difference was never the prep.
It was how they allowed themselves to show up.
You don’t need to overhaul yourself for this.
You just need to show up.
